About the Event

A great way to become a Mental Health First Aider from the comfort of your own home! This course is spread over 2 x Thursdays with the live sessions taking place in the morning and afternoon with time for lunch and individual study in between :)

This Online course has been developed by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA England) and qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider. It provides the skills, knowledge and understanding of first aid for mental health and how to effectively support those experiencing distress. This empowers both individuals and communities to understand the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and how best to support themselves and those around them in recovery. 

The course is structured around a blend of individual learning and four live sessions. Learners will be required to participate in a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions.

Everyone who completes the course gets:

  • A certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider
  • A manual to refer to whenever you need it
  • A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health

Individual learning to be completed before live session 1:

  • Introduction to the Online Mental Health First Aid course and the Online Learning Hub (course overview, safety procedure, attending live sessions, and completing individual learning activities)

Live session 2:

  • Recap of individual learning on depression
  • Prevalence of suicide
  • Suicide, substance misuse and dual diagnosis
  • Analyse the impact of suicidal feelings

  • Explain Mental Health First Aid action plan 1 for suicide
  • 10 minute break
  • Explain non-judgemental listening, Empathy video
  • Practice using ALGEE in case study scenarios
