How to survive the 9 to 5
Updated: Jan 30, 2020
The 9 to 5, 8 to 6, 10 to 2 - Whatever it is, we are in it for the long haul.
Here are some tips to help you through it...
Do set your alarm for the same time each day
Consistency is key and make sure you aren’t snoozing!
Don’t skip breakfast
They say it’s the most important meal of the day for a reason. Start your day properly with that toast and a cuppa!
Do say goodbye to your loved ones
All to often, we rush out of the door in the morning, forgetting to give our loved ones a kiss or cuddle goodbye. Show them some love. It is proven that cuddles lower your stress levels so squeeze them tight!
Don't be pushy!
If your train is full, your coach is late or there's a queue at the car park … be patient and respect your fellow commuters. We are all in the same boat.
Do pay compliments to colleagues
As much as Brenda annoys the hell out of you when she hogs the water machine, try complimenting her outfit instead of tutting behind her back. I promise, you will feel much happier!
Do go the extra mile
Some of us spend more time at work than we do at home. Make sure you are showing up and putting your all in. It will be noticed.
Don’t turn down social drinks
We all want to get home after a long day but if you keep shunting the office parties, you will find yourself removed from the invites. I don’t mean party every night, but if someone leaves, join them for a farewell drink. You never know what opportunities you could be missing out on!
Do say no
Don’t take things on that you cant finish or have no plan on doing. Not only will you let others down, it shows you are not committed to the tasks you are given. Its great to say YES but its even better to say NO sometimes.
And finally,
Don’t take work too seriously
We all need to earn a living but actually.... the best things in life are free!
